Why does almost every Abilene-area load end up in Jones County?
Both Type 1 landfills that serve the Abilene area sit in Jones County, according to the regional solid waste plan. Abilene Landfill holds TCEQ permit 1469A and Abilene Environmental Landfill holds permit 2325. In 2019 each took in about 180,000 tons, with decades of capacity left.
That's good news for Jones County jobs: the haul from Anson, Hawley or north Abilene to the scale is short. The plan also lists the City of Anson's building-demolition monofill (permit 9004A), which is limited to abandoned and nuisance buildings, not household or remodel debris.

Who collects trash in Jones County towns?
The regional plan lists Republic Services as the collection and disposal provider for Hawley and Hamlin. Anson and Stamford aren't listed in that table, and we found no published franchise that limits private roll-offs in any Jones County town. North Abilene follows Abilene's construction-debris rule.

What storm cleanups happen in Jones County?
Jones County takes some of the region's hardest storms. Baseball-size hail broke home windows in Hawley on April 1, 2024, and an EF-3 tornado struck Hawley on May 2, 2024. An EF2 tornado damaged homes near Funston on May 23, 2023.
